Concert Etiquette Tips
From the Philadelphia Orchestra
Applause: Learning when to applaud is often tricky. When the conductor drops his/her arms and turns around, it usually indicates that this is the end of a piece. If you are not sure, take a cue from those around you.

Be prompt: Arriving late runs the risk of you not being allowed into the concert, or could disrupt the performers.

Be courteous: Electronic devices: Please silence these devices before the start of the event.

Talking: Even whispers can be heard in the concert hall and can be a distraction to patrons and musicians. Save your comments until after the concert— it will give you and your friends much more to discuss.

Young Children: While we love our young supporters, please remove any noisy/unruly children from the auditorium.

                                    DONATIONS!

We welcome any donations of snacks for band camp. These kids LOVE veggies, fruit, crackers, zucchini bread, banana bread, muffins, animal crackers, etc. They burn up tons of energy and need to “refill”!  Powdered Gatorade is a great help too! If you can send zucchini or banana breads or muffins, please bring/send them frozen!!  The kids love them when they are cold and moist after being out in the heat!!

If you have any questions about helping out with the snacks or if you would like to come and help out during camp, please email Hans Snell at hans.snell@d51schools.org so we can coordinate the details!  Extra hands are greatly appreciated serving lunches – as well as your donations. Thank you!!

v Volunteering for band camp:

ü  We do all of our volunteer coordinating on the Parents “Fundraising/Volunteer” page of centralbands.wordpress.com.

ü  We will get band camp volunteer and donation information posted soon.

v Email mailing list:

ü  Check your email this summer as we set up our 2022 Marching Warriors email mailing list – just another way to stay connected!

v THANK YOU so much to all of the band parents in advance for their help during band camp. It TRULY takes a team effort to make our season work every year.

v If there are any questions about band camp, please do not hesitate to reach out to any of the band board members or Mr. Snell. WE ARE HERE TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS!

“To build an all encompassing pre-eminent band program which promotes student growth and appreciation through music.”

Band camp is a session in which members first learn to work together, when leaders first emerge, and where the attitude for the season will be set. Band camp is a chance for everyone to get know one another and learn to depend upon one another. It is a time when fundamentals (playing, marching, and spinning/dancing) are mastered and when the first indication will emerge that a cooperative group effort can achieve what no individual could possibly attempt.

I look forward to working with you all very soon and am excited for our year! Please reach out with any questions.

Music Mumblings for April

Hello All,

Just wanted to let you know that starting on Monday I will be on paternity leave and Mr. Brett Argo will be taking over the bands for me.  The students  have been working very well with him and he is going to do an amazing job with them.  Attached and below are all of the big events to keep in mind as we are going into festival season.  Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

First – The Colorado West Regional Concert Band Festival is happening April 21st-23rd. Central High School will be hosting part of the festival. We will have judges and volunteers. As a fundraiser, we are feeing them breakfast and lunch on the 21st and 22nd. I have made a sign up list for volunteers and also for food items. Please sign up if you are available. It is just for a few hours. We appreciate all the help. Sign up form can be found here. https://volunteersignup.org/JXBMX

Second – Our next band booster meeting will be April 11th at 6pm at Dos Hombres. We are asking ANYONE who may be interested in joining the band board or heading up any of our various committees next year to please come talk to us and find out what all it entails.

If you’re tired of your student not communicating what is going on with band, getting involved is the best way to be one step ahead of them and to prove to them you DO know something. It’s also a LOT of fun. We have many parents whose seniors will graduate this year leaving a lot of positions that need filled. If you think it sounds overwhelming or like a time-sucker – please come talk to us and we can give you the real scoop. Dos Hombres, 6pm, Monday, April 11th. (If you know for sure you’re coming, please reply to this email so we can make sure we get enough chairs around our table at Dos).

Third – (If you read to the end – you get a bonus piece of info). The Marching Band Reveal show meeting is currently scheduled for May 6th at Central High School (Time TBD). This is really when the excitement for the marching band season kicks off.

Mr. Argo/Mr. Snell are very busy running the festival at CHS during these three days, so their ability to help solve your problems will be very limited.

It is not acceptable for a student to miss a performance due to a lack of transportation – please plan ahead. Let Mr. Argo/Mr. Snell know if you need help with finding a ride to your performance.
** All events are free! If you are available during any of our performances, we would love to have you there to support our music ensembles and give us a great audience.
